The chair of a local opposition party called Gov. Francisco Vega to resign due to a chaotic situation in the state that has the government close to bankruptcy.

Transformemos Party Chair Mayra Flores said the party previously asked in July for the governor to step down in order to allow a new administration to rescue the state.

Flores said the state has many financial problems such as delinquent payments to Cecyte High School teachers and retired teachers, as well as to employees of the Judiciary Branch and agencies like the State Electoral Institute.

“The irresponsible actions that Kiko Vega has committed are a crime,” Flores said. “By the way state finances are being managed, thousands of families are suffering right before Christmas.”

According to the political leader, both the governor and the Secretary of Planning and Finances have shown their incompetence.

“It is a shame that he cannot even provide an exact amount of the state’s debt,” Flores added. “It is also an insult to call these issues with euphemisms like ‘imbalance’ and ‘deficit.’ The truth is that Baja California is broken, in bankruptcy, in red numbers.”

Flores called for Vega to resign immediately or face a petition to the Mexican Senate to remove and replace his administration.
