-

Nov. 14, 1934 - Nov. 21, 2018

Richard Proudfit passed away peacefully on November 21st surrounded by immediate family.

Richard, an only child, was born in 1934 in San Luis Obispo, CA, to Lancelot and Loraine Proudfit. In his early years, Richard worked at the Southern Pacific Railroad before graduating from Cal Poly SLO. Richard had a fifty plus year career as a banker. He began his career at Security Pacific Bank in El Centro, CA. as a “Manager in Training” in 1961 and became Branch Manager in 1964. While living in the Imperial Valley he married and began a family, and gained numerous close friends. He golfed, fished, and later became a road bicycling enthusiast. He also helped establish Jacques ‘n Jills Athletic Club, and played a wicked handball game. “Dick”, as he was called by his many friends then, also enjoyed years of four-wheeling and camping with family and friends on Mexican beaches and in forests and mountains around the Western states.

At work, as he successfully grew his El Centro bank branch, his success gained attention from his bank’s executives in Los Angeles. In the mid 70’s he moved to LA and rapidly earned a series of executive promotions with Security Bank. He moved on to lead positions with several independent banks in the Los Angeles area over a 35 year period before retiring to Palm Springs. Following his retirement, he loved his dogs, his Jeep, his Palm Springs life, cooking, and a drink of scotch with friends.

A common thread throughout Richard’s long career was a commitment to integrity and social justice through his personal and professional principles. Richard was respected by all who knew him for his dedication to his family, friends, and career. A tireless worker, Richard could always be counted on to do what’s right, not just what’s easy.

Richard and Patti’s marriage of 57 years was defined by their friendship, experiences, and love of family as well as each other. Their time together reflected a lifetime of happiness and dedication to each other and their family.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Scotti Strockis; son, Blake; daughter-in-law, Joely, and his four grandchildren, Mack, Ben, Ellie and Piper; his best friend and wife, Patti.
