Threat at middle school deemed unfounded

-

Authorities have determined a report of a threat made Wednesday at Frank Wright Middle School was not credible.

The supposed threat was brought to the attention of school staff Wednesday night during a band rehearsal at the school.

A student reported to a teacher that they heard, or thought they heard, a threat against the school, Imperial Unified District Superintendent Bryan Thomason explained.

“After investigating Wednesday night by administration and Imperial Police Department, the potential threat was not only deemed not credible, but unfounded,” Thomason said. “We teach our students that if they hear something, say something.”

School administration promptly notified parents Wednesday night with an email, which stated the threat was determined to not be credible and that there was no pending threat against the school.

“We were able to notify parents quickly via email and our website, as well as a follow up text early Thursday morning before school that the situation was resolved,” Thomason said.

As a precautionary measure, extra security was provided by the Imperial Police Department at the school Thursday morning.

“The Imperial Police Department takes these situations very seriously,” the city’s Public Information Officer Alexis L. Chalupnik said. “We are glad there was a positive outcome and students came forward to report what they had heard.”
