Reisin selected for council vacancy
CALEXICO — Retired downtown business owner Morris Reisin was unanimously selected by the fourmember City Council on Wednesday to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of a council member in January.
Following his selection, Reisin took to the podium at City Hall to pledge to work with his colleagues on the dais to help improve the quality of life for citizens and revive the downtown area.
“I’m very excited about this whole situation,” Reisin said. “I’ve been anxious to get in here and do it.”
Aside from his commitment to revitalizing the downtown area, Reisin indicated that he also wanted to work with federal officials on reducing wait times at the port of entry.
A former member of the city’s Business Improvement District, Reisin pledged to leverage his 50 years of business experience to the betterment of the city and the council.
After acknowledging the dedication and hard work of the city’s police and fire chiefs, Reisin also thanked the city manager and assistant city manager for their continued efforts as well.
Following Reisin’s selection, Councilman David Romero thanked Reisin for his years of supporting and sponsoring youth sports in Calexico and advocating on behalf of the business community.
Similarly, Mayor Lewis Pacheco acknowledged Reisin’s commitment to supporting youth sports and economic development in the downtown area.
