ANA M. REESE

-

Nov. 22, 1930 - Dec. 5, 2018

Ana M. Reese, 88, of Brawley passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.

She was born on November 22, 1930 in Brawley and later married to Franklen Thurman Reese.

Ana is survived by her sister, Mary Monninger of Calexico, CA.

“You’ve been a valuable member of our community,” Pacheco said.

Reisin’s official swearing in and seating on the dais is pending the completion of a background check. He had placed fifth in a field of seven City Council candidates during the November 2018 election and had also unsuccessfully ran for a seat in 2014.

Reisin was among a total of 15 candidates who had applied for the council vacancy, and one of four finalists selected by an ad hoc committee created to review the applications and make recommendations.

The other three finalists included Jose Lopez, executive director of Campesinos Unidos Inc., Camilo Garcia, county Workforce Development Office manager, and Christopher Velasco, who on Jan. 31 retracted his application.

As part of Wednesday’s selection process during the council’s regular meeting, Lopez’s name first came before the council for possible appointment, but failed to receive a second motion to elicit a vote by the entire council.

Reisin’s name came next, with his motion for consideration then seconded by Councilwoman Rosie Arreola-Fernandez, which led to the subsequent unanimous vote for approval.

Prior to the selection process getting underway, Garcia had addressed those present, commending the work of the ad hoc committee and the progress the city has made in recent years.

Garcia also acknowledged the council candidates’ shared desire to serve the citizens of Calexico and offered details about how he would go about achieving such a goal.

Among his proposals was a desire to diversify the city’s economy, enhance relationships with educators and institutions of higher learning and work closely with county, state and federal officials to help move the city forward.

Reisin will fill the vacancy left by the Jan. 3 resignation of former council member Jesus Eduardo Escobar, who was elected in November to serve as a county supervisor for the district encompassing Calexico.

Reisin will serve until end of the seat’s term November 2020. in
