My favorites

-

Movie — “Dangal” (“It’s about two girls [who are taught] to wrestle by their dad (in India). I really like that movie. I recommend it.”)

Class — “I like P.E. … and math, too … that’s it.” Non-sport activity — “I like lifting weights, but that’s kind of a sport …”

Music genre — “I like bachatas and cumbias and all kinds of Mexican songs.”

What do you enjoy most about your sport?

“I enjoy that you have to do a little bit extra for everything. You have to put 100 percent or more on the mat.”

What’s one of the best memories you’ve had competing?

“In general it would be when I get first place and it’s like ‘OOO!’ all the e ort that I put into it (has been rewarded), but I don’t have a specific one.”

Who inspires you and why?

“My dad inspires me to keep on [wrestling]. He’s the one that pushes me. He’s, like, ‘Oh, come on, you got this.’ Also my coaches are always there … (really) all the people that push me. Gustavo Benitez gave me classes one on one. He was my partner. He’s been there a lot, helping me when I needed [it] … even when I don’t need the help he’s always there supporting. (Also) my mom. Especially my mom. She’s the one who gives me all the food.”

What do you hope to accomplish in the future?

“I hope to get a scholarship for my wrestling, and go to a university and get a job … and (while I’m still in school) hopefully going to (wrestling) Nationals and represent Calexico at big, big tournaments.”
