Drug arrests leads to removal of two children
Child Protective Services removed two children from a home Wednesday night after a Heber man and woman were arrested for alleged drug possession, Imperial County Narcotics Task Force announced.
The arrest of Robert R. Veliz, 38, led to the subsequent arrest of Vicky L. Reed, 41, and the removal of the children, ICNTF Cmdr. Ryan Kelley said.
Approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday, Veliz was detained at the west port of entry by Customs and Border Protection after he was reportedly found to be in possession of approximately 1 ounce of methamphetamine and 1 ounce of heroin.
ICNTF agent responded to the scene and took Veliz into custody. Agents conducted a followup investigation hours later at his East Main Street residence in Heber.
At the home, agents came into contact with Reed, who was found to be in possession of a small amount of meth.
Reed was taken into custody, and CPS placed the two children in protective custody.
Veliz was booked into county jail on $100,000 bail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, transporting or selling a controlled substance, possessing or purchasing a controlled substance for sale, transporting or selling a controlled substance and child endangerment.
Additionally, Reed was booked into county jail on $100,000 bail on suspicion of children endangerment, possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, county Sheriff’s Office arrest records stated.
