Two separate drug arrests were made Tuesday at the east and west ports of entry, county Sheriff’s Office arrest records stated.
Approximately 9:16 a.m., a 25-yearold man was arrested at the east port of entry after more than 40 pounds of suspected methamphetamine allegedly were found inside his vehicle.
Jesus T. Perez-Sanchez, city of residence undisclosed, was taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations agents and booked into county jail without bail on suspicion of unlawful importation of a controlled substance.
According to a federal court complaint, Perez and his vehicle, a 2002 Honda Civic, were referred to secondary inspection as he applied for entry at the port.
During secondary inspection, a human-narcotics detection dog alerted to the driver’s side door of the Civic.
After a physical inspection of the vehicle, Customs and Border Protection officers reported discovering 46 packages in both rear quarter panels and the bottom of both front doors.
The packages had a combined weight of 47 pounds and field-tested positive for meth.
In the court complaint, Perez stated he was offered $3,000 to cross with the drugs.
Approximately 4:30 p.m., a 19-yearold man was arrested at the west port of entry pedestrian lanes after more than 4 pounds of meth allegedly were found concealed on his person.
Diego S. Demara, city of residence undisclosed, was taken into custody by Homeland Security agents and booked into county jail without bail on suspicion of unlawful importation of a controlled substance.
According to a federal court complaint, a CBP officer at the pedestrian lanes referred Demara to secondary inspection after noticing a bulge on Demara’s right inner thigh.
During secondary inspection, a human-narcotics detection dog alerted to Demara’s groin area.
Upon further inspection, a CBP officer reported discovering four clear plastic bags, which field-tested positive for meth and had a combined weight of approximately 4.78 pounds, wrapped in duct tape around both of Demara’s thighs and rear torso.
