Lawmakers move forward with San Felipe incorporation
State lawmakers unanimously approved a resolution previously approved by members of the Political Coordinating Board (Jucopo), to set up a special commission that will decide the incorporation of San Felipe.
The resolution was introduced by Chairwoman of the Municipal Strengthening Commission Miriam Elizabeth Cano Núñez.
The special commission will be made up of Chair Juan Manuel Molina García, Secretary Miriam Elizabeth Cano Núñez and Víctor Manuel Morán Hernández, Víctor Hugo Navarro Gutiérrez, Carmen Leticia Hernández Carmona, María Luisa Villalobos Ávila, Eva Gricelda Rodríguez and Elí Topete Robles.
The resolution mandates that the special commission’s chair call for a meeting within the next 15 working days for its installation and start the incorporation process immediately.
During that same meeting, lawmakers must notify the community of the commission’s integration.
On Feb. 12, Assemblyman Juan Manuel Molina introduced a resolution to formally request the Legislature to restart and continue the incorporation of San Felipe.
In August a group of 3,800 San Felipe citizens announced to the Assembly their intention to incorporate the area, which has been a municipality of Mexicali.
Molina introduced a resolution to create Baja California’s seventh municipality at the request of port residents.
Last month, lawmakers approved a bill to create a new municipality in the southern tip of the state — San Quintín.
