Dalske, Rivera join IVC student affairs department
IMPERIAL – Imperial Valley College announced Tuesday it has hired two new administrators to oversee its student affairs department.
James Dalske was hired as interim dean of student affairs and enrollment services in the beginning of May. He replaced Victor Torres, who moved into the college’s economic and workforce development department to become associate dean of workforce development and nontraditional instruction.
Yareli Rivera works directly with students, as one of the youngest managers hired at IVC and assumed the student development and activities director position. She is a Valley native and IVC alumna, who is currently pursuing a doctorate in education with an emphasis on community college leadership at San Diego State University.
She received a master’s in post-secondary educational leadership with an emphasis in student affairs and a bachelor’s degree in psychology at SDSU-Imperial Valley.
The new hires are tasked with overseeing a department that encompasses government, activities, campus organizations, facilities access, enrollment and other areas that impact IVC’s 8,000 students.
Dalske comes to IVC with 16 years of progressive leadership responsibility. His previous position was dean of students at California State University
Maritime Academy.
He was chosen as a 2018- 2019 American Council on Education ( ACE) Fellow. The ACE Fellows Program is reputed to be the most effective, comprehensive leadership development program in American higher education today.
Dalske served his fellowship year at the University of California, Merced and was entrenched in learning about public-private funding models and building a thriving model for low-income first-generation Hispanic students.
He is a graduate of Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education from Azusa Pacific University. He received a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Chapman University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University, Maritime Academy.
Rivera is devoted to making higher education in the Imperial Valley accessible, equitable and attainable. She recently served as the data analyst and retention specialist for SDSU-IV and was previously an assistant coordinator for Compact for Success and collaborative programs for SDSU.
