Secretary files lawsuit against former officials
Based on the results of a special audit carried out by the State Department of Honesty and the Civil Service, authorities have filed two complaints with the Attorney General’s office in Mexicali against officials of the past governor’s administration for alleged fraud.
Secretary Vicenta Espinoza Martínez said the first complaint corresponds to the investigation of alleged illegal payments found in the public treasury for 1.2 billion pesos.
Espinoza Martínez said no documentation proving expenditures was found in the investigation while anomalies in accounting were also detected.
He said 14 former public servants of the Department of the Treasury could be implicated, from secretaries to directors, officers and undersecretaries.
In a second complaint, based on the results of an audit carried out by the administration, authorities found alleged contributions to the National Action Party (PAN) and a nonprofit organization named Center for Humanist Studies and Analysis, linked to the same party.
Espinoza Martínez said a 2 percent charge was made to the salaries of state employees from Aug. 28, 2008, to Oct. 31, 2019, for the benefit of the organization.
The complaint names 26 former government officials of the Department of the Treasury.
Espinoza Martínez added that an administrative investigation of both criminal investigations is ongoing and could lead to additional actions.
