Officer-involved shooting reported

An individual who allegedly murdered two men Tuesday night and threatened to take the life of a minor who was being held hostage was shot dead by police officers.

According to the police, the double homicide was reported at 9:28 p.m. on Tuesday in a residence located at 997 Ejido Porvenir St. in the Valle de las Misiones neighborho­od.

The police said the murder victims have been identified as Noé Rolando Naves Beltrán, 36, and Pedro Martín Ortega Bravo, 38. The police said a woman told officers the victims were with the suspect outside the home, when she heard several gunshots.

Upon leaving, the woman observed the suspect with the weapon and the victims on the ground.

The suspect fled northbound, but a 15-year-old boy, who was the son of one of the deceased, and a 35-year-old man, pursued the suspect.

Police located him by Santa Isabel Highway and Cosalapa Street in Fraccionam­iento Sánchez Taboada neighborho­od.

The suspect, upon seeing the agents, took the teen hostage, threatenin­g to shoot him in the head.

One of the officers instructed the suspect to drop the weapon on the ground. The suspect ignored the command.

The suspect then pointed the gun at one of the officers and fired, but missed.

The officer returned fire, killing the suspect.

The suspect was identified as José Luis Arroto Martínez. He had lived with the deceased men for some time. A 9 mm Smith & Wesson handgun was seized at the scene. —Arturo Bojorquez,abo
