Lofgren receives Arab Award

-

The Imperial Valley College Associated Students Government and the Student Affairs Committee awarded EOPS Counselor Mary Lofgren with the Arab Award, the college’s highest activities program award for any person on campus or within the community.

Lofgren is best known on campus as an EOPS counselor and psychology instructor. However, she has spent much of her career at IVC dedicating her time and e orts toward students who often come from underserved areas and backgrounds.

Lofgren has served as an Academic Senate member and president and has contributed and raised thousands of dollars to benefit students during her tenure at IVC.

Lofgren’s donations often made the di erence between a student continuing their higher educational degree and dropping out due to financial circumstances.

Recently, the IVC Foundation announced an emergency scholarship for students who had lost their jobs due to COVID-19 circumstances. A total of $ 20,000 was made available to students and $8,000 of that was donated by Lofgren.

Lofgren will be retiring on June 29 after 29 years of service, having donated nearly $1,000 annually to the IVC foundation.

The Associated Students

Government of Imperial Valley College would like to thank Lofgren for her service and dedication to the student body. She will leave a lasting impression as she is a role model to many on campus. The ASG wishes Lofgren the very best on her future endeavors and a very happy retirement.

Congratulations on your very well deserved award!
