Meth seized at Highway 86 checkpoint

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents seized methamphet­amine at the Highway 86 checkpoint on Friday morning, a Customs and Border Protection news release stated.

The incident occurred approximat­ely 7:05 a.m., when a woman driving a white 2002 Nissan Sentra approached the checkpoint for inspection.

A canine detection team alerted to the vehicle. Agents sent the vehicle to secondary inspection for further investigat­ion.

A search of the vehicle revealed a package hidden inside a lunch bag and a bundle on her person.

The substance inside the package tested positive for the characteri­stics of black tar heroin, and the bundle on her person tested positive for the characteri­stics of meth.

The total weight of the heroin was 249.4 grams. The total weight of the methamphet­amine was 30.1 grams.

The drugs had a combined estimated street value of $26,290, the news release stated.

The driver was a 38-year-old U.S. citizen. She, the vehicle and drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcemen­t Administra­tion.
