Murder suspect booked on new charges

-

A 30- year- old Brawley resident awaiting trial in Imperial County Jail for murder was rebooked Tuesday afternoon on two new charges, county Sheriff’s Office arrest records stated.

Eduardo Tolentino Jr. was taken into custody at Module A of the jail at 4 p. m.

He was rebooked with $20,000 bail on suspicion being an inmate in possession of a weapon and for willfully threatening to commit a crime that would result in death or great bodily injury.

Tolentino Jr. was initially booked on June 1, 2018, in connection to the fatal May 30 shooting of 24- year- old Brawley resident Daniel Hernandez Jr. at the Fillco Gas Station in the 900 block of Main Street.

Besides facing one count of murder in connection to that incident, Tolentino was also charged with shooting into an inhabited vehicle and willful child endangerment, both felonies.

The willful child endangerment charge stems from a 17- year- old individual having been in the vehicle at the time of the alleged shooting and sustaining a slight wound, the county District Attorney’s Office previously reported.

Tolentino was also facing sentencing enhancements under the state’s Three Strikes Law as a result of a 2012 conviction for assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, and a 2015 conviction for corporal injury to a cohabitant with grave injury, local court records stated.

Since then, he was accused of assaulting an inmate and battering a corrections deputy in separate incidents in 2019.

Tuesday’s charges stem from new incidents.
