After the closure of more than five months, several sports parks in Mexicali will reopen their doors to allow users to walk, jog and run.

Director of the Municipal Institute of Sports and Physical Culture Lourdes Cañez Martínez announced a reopening protocol called the Safe Return Plan, in which physical activity in public spaces will officially return.

The official stressed that when the municipal authorities authorize the reopening of the facilities, only physical activities that can be carried out in the walkways will be allowed.

According to authorities, park sports committees will supervise compliance with the protocols.

Parks will open from 6 to 11 a.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m.

Cáñez Martínez clarified that recreation and leisure areas such as games, picnic and social gathering will remain closed.

Regarding security measures, the director said people must maintain a minimum distance of 4 meters at all times, and only people between 18 and 59 years of age may enter the parks.

Authorities will prohibit friendly and competitive games in any sports discipline, as well as boxing and weight gyms, and swimming pools.

Sports parks managers will be obliged to take the temperature of each user who enters and bar anyone whose temperature is more than 37.4 degrees Celsius (99.32 degrees Fahrenheit).

Each user will receive antibacterial gel, and a disinfectant mat will be located at the entrances.

Users will not be able to use benches, stretching machines or green areas to rest or sleep.

The units will allow the entry of between 30 and 120 people, depending on their size.
