VOICE OF THE PEOPLE

-

Good luck, Brett!

I saw on the last page of the IV Press Friday, in the SDSU section, that Bret Kofford has done another film, and it has a good chance of receiving many honors. It is an honor to be considered for honors! Brett is a gifted writer, and I hope he wins, not only for his labor to be rewarded, but it is always good to see our locals do well in the world outside of the Valley.

If you missed the article, the title of the film is “Christmas in July” about a musician who experiences a transformation in his faith and family values because of a relationship with a dying grandmother. It is up for Best Picture and several other awards at both the Burbank and Canadian Faith and Family Film Festivals.

During the COVID lockdown, I have watched many movies and many on the Hallmark Channels where the themes health crises, career difficulties and devastating loss force people to reflect on their values, relationships and past life choices. Christmastime is especially powerful because family and the holidays are intertwined. I suspect that COVID has caused many to rethink their lives, choices and embrace their faith more.

I am looking forward to seeing the film and rooting for our local writing rascal. If it is not chosen for more honor, please give it a look on the websites for the two film festivals. You may as well; you are not going to any walk-in movies anytime soon!
