CALEXICO -- Registration is now open for the third annual Power Up! Women’s Business Empowerment Event, to be held online from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 29.

Jodi Rollins, owner of Rollins Creative LLC and founder of Power Up!, said she wasn’t sure the event would go forward this year because of COVID-19, but then she was contacted by

San Diego State University-Imperial Valley’s new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Mark Wheeler about collaborating on various projects, and Power Up! was one of them.

“I am incredibly grateful that Mark Wheeler reached out to me,”

Rollins said. “The timing couldn’t have been better. … When else have we ever needed inspiration and motivation more than we do now? It’s important to find inspiration motivation during this pandemic -which is our theme.”

The full title of this year’s event is, “Finding Creativity, Inspiration & Motivation During the Pandemic.” Featured speakers are author Gina LaRoche and Dr. Cristina Alfaro, San Diego State University.

La Roche is co-founder of Seven Stones Leadership Group and is a leading organizational consultant, executive coach, speaker, author and artist.

She is noted for executive programs that challenge leaders, teams and entrepreneurs to accelerate results and develop mindfulness and presence for themselves and their organizations.

Alfaro, a Calexico native, is interim associate vice president for Global Affairs at SDSU.

She is a professor in the College of Education’s Department of Dual Language and English Learner Education and Provost Chair for Latinx and Transborder Affairs.

Because this year’s event is being held online, the event makes it possible to connect with women throughout the country. In addition to the scheduled speakers, the event will include virtual activities, prizes, networking and more.

“Now that this is a virtual event, friends, family and strangers alike from all over the country and all over the world can attend!” Rollins said. “This is fantastic for my business which has really suffered severely due to COVID-19. At the same time if there’s an opportunity to make this a national and international event, to bring awareness to this incredible valley that we live in, it would be a win-win.

“Maybe this event will bring opportunities for people and businesses who have also suffered during this pandemic,” she continued. “I want to be able to reach and connect as many people as I possibly can.”

To register and for more information, go to www.getrollinscreative.com. The general registration fee for the event is $10. SDSU-IV students, faculty and staff can register for the event at no cost.
