Mexicles gang member arrested
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a known gang member on Thursday morning after he crossed the border illegally, a Customs and Border Protection news release stated.
The incident occurred about 5:29 a.m., when agents assigned to the Calexico station observed a man make an illegal crossing.
Agents apprehended the man approximately one mile east of the downtown port of entry.
Agents transported the man to the El Centro Sector rally point for immigration and criminal history screening.
Records checks revealed that the man, a 47-year-old undocumented migrant from Honduras, is a documented Mexicles gang member with a prior conviction for entry without inspection.
Record checks also revealed that the man had an aggravated felony conviction in 2010 out of Houston, Texas, for robbery with a gun in the first degree.
The man was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment, and was removed from the United States back to Honduras on July 28, 2020.
Following his arrest Thursday, the man was held in federal custody pending criminal prosecution.
