Two Sureño gang members arrested
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two undocumented migrants who are known gang members during two separate incidents on Monday, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release stated.
The first incident occurred around 6:40 p.m., when agents assigned to the Calexico Station observed a man illegally enter the United States.
Agents apprehended the man approximately 12 miles east of the downtown port of entry and transported him to the El Centro Sector rally point for immigration and criminal history screening.
Records checks revealed that the man, a 36-yearold undocumented migrant from Mexico, is a documented Sureño gang member who was formally removed from the United States to Mexico by an immigration judge on Aug. 19, 2003.
The gang member was held in federal custody pending removal back to Mexico.
The second incident occurred about 7 p.m., when agents assigned to the Calexico Station observed a man illegally enter the United States.
Agents apprehended the man approximately 16 miles east of the downtown POE and transported him to the El Centro Sector rally point for immigration and criminal history screening.
Agents conducted records checks, which revealed that the man, a 42-year-old undocumented migrant from Mexico, is a documented Sureño gang member with multiple removals from the United States.
Additional record checks revealed the man has a felony conviction for “force assault with deadly weapon not a firearm” in 1998 out of Stockton.
The man was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.
In 2003, the man was convicted on charges related to a robbery and assault.
The man was sentenced to 15 more years’ in prison for his conviction and was subsequently removed from the United States back to Mexico on Aug. 14, 2017.
The gang member was held in federal custody pending criminal prosecution.
