Man killed in drive-by shooting
EL CENTRO -- A 37-year-old man died after being shot in an apparent drive-by Friday in the 1100 block of Oak Road, El Centro Police Department announced.
The victim’s name is being withheld at this time, an ECPD news release stated. A victim had been named on social media; however, that identification had not been confirmed as of press time.
The incident was reported to 911 at 11:36 a.m., county scanner traffic stated.
One 911 caller reported a male subject was shooting his gun in the area of Oak and West Villa Avenue.
Another 911 caller advised of a drive-by shooting with possibly a motorcycle involved.
At this time, ECPD officers responded to the shooting at Oak and Villa Avenue.
Officers located the male victim in the 1100 block of Oak, the news release stated.
El Centro Fire Department paramedics and American Medical Response ambulance service provided medical aid at the scene.
The shooting victim was transferred via REACH to an undisclosed hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, the news release stated.
According to scanner traffic, the man sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
The ECFD Investigations Bureau is actively investigating this shooting, the release stated.
Witnesses have described the vehicle involved in the shooting as a light-colored pickup truck.
