JOHN ROBERT SASSIE

Aug. 15, 1943 - Dec. 22, 2020

John Robert Sassie, age 77, went home to the Lord on December 22, 2020.

John was born on August 15, 1943 in Brawley to parents John and Ann Sassie. John’s family moved to Michigan for a few years and returned to Imperial Valley where John began school at Magnolia School in Brawley. John attended elementary school in Brawley as well as high school where he graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1961. He attended Imperial Valley College where he graduated with an AA Degree in 1963. John married his high school sweetheart, Sue Henderson in 1962 and they enjoyed fifty eight years of happy marriage. Over the next few years John and Sue had two children and five grandchildren, whom they enjoyed immensely.

John worked for several years for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. His final working years were spent with the Imperial Irrigation District working as a zanjero and as a water coordinator. He retired from the Imperial Irrigation District after 24 years in 2006.

After retiring, John was kept busy managing several rental apartments and houses. John was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. He especially enjoyed many years of deep sea fishing in San Diego and Mexico. John and Sue enjoyed family trips with their children and grandchildren to Alaska and Hawaii during their retirement.

John was preceded in death by his parents John and Ann Sassie.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; brother, William Sassie (Carol); children Laura Dial (Tim), Jeff Sassie (Shannon); grandchildren, Lauren Dial, Steven Dial, Kendal Sassie, Payton Sassie and Bransyn Sassie.

John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be missed by all.
