EL CENTRO — Suspects who stole cash from an ATM machine during an armed robbery Thursday afternoon remain at large, El Centro Police Department announced Friday.

The robbery occurred about 2: 20 p. m. at the Wells Fargo ATM located at 2050 N. Imperial Ave., county scanner traffic stated.

ECPD call logs said $40,000 in cash was taken from the machine.

The robbery occurred while two people, one of whom was a Wells Fargo employee, were attending to the machine.

Two men approached the workers with firearms drawn and demanded money, an ECPD news release said.

Both victims complied and gave the suspects the currency.

The suspects then fled in two vehicles, both of which were recovered as evidence.

Neither victim was injured during the incident. The suspects remain at large, the release said.

The suspects reportedly took a cell phone from one of the victims during the incident. About 2:22 p.m., the victim went to the nearby Boost Mobile store and asked that ECPD be contacted.

Officers collected descriptions of the suspects. They also secured a search warrant, which was served at an apartment in the 400 block of Wall Road in Imperial.

While one of the suspect vehicles was recovered there, neither suspect was found at the apartment.

ECPD detectives served the warrant with assistance from the ECPD Special Weapons and Tactics Team, the Imperial County Narcotics Task Force, the Imperial Police Department and the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call ECPD detective Jeff Malcomb at (760) 335-3661 or (760) 337-4502.
