YGNACIO MENDEZ
June 15, 1953 - Jan. 22, 2021
Ygnacio, better known as Nacho to friends and family, was born in Harlingen, Texas and raised in Le Grand, Ca. He was the 5th of 7 siblings born to Francisco and Socorro Mendez.
Nacho moved to Brawley, Ca in 1977 and worked for Calipatria School District for over 25 years as a custodian, maintenance worker and bus driver. H e made many friends in the north end during this time. A fter retiring from C alipatria he held several jobs, always in the field of building maintenance and was well known for his handyman skills. H e was an early riser and a hard worker.
Nacho became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1978 and he enjoyed serving his spiritual family. He was an active member and involved in many congregation activities. He h ad the privilege of carrying out his assignments at Baptism a t our local circuit assemblies for many y ears. He e njoyed giving Bible studies to s everal, even up until very recently. H e served his congregation as an Elder, Accounts Servant, and in building maintenance of our local Kingdom Hall. These privileges brought him much joy. H e was always willing to help in one way or another.
Nacho is survived by his wife, Linda Mendez, and their daughters Monique Rosas (Ulises) and Amy Ramos ( Carlos). He was blessed to have 4 beloved grandchildren, Kaylie Rosas, Kaleb Rosas, Nicholas Ramos, and Nathan Ramos. They were a special highlight in his life and brought him much joy and motivation. Nacho is also survived by his brothers Edmundo Mendez and Frank Mendez, several nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly.
He w as preceded in death by his parents and brothers Victor Mendez, Noe Mendez, and Raul Mendez.
As many know, Nacho fell ill at a young age and fought a l ong battle for over 32 years. During this time, he maintained his priorities as a man of strong faith, serving his God Jehovah along with his family. He g ave his best in his spiritual activities when his health permitted. He w as faithful and loyal till the end, always upholding God’s views and principals in his life.
Some o f Nacho’s hobbies included wood working and he seemed to have a project going on constantly. H e had quite an imagination and was creative a lways coming up with interesting pieces of furniture. Many remember him for his laughter and he always found a way to make us laugh, too.
He was grateful to all our f amily and friends that cared for him during his illness. He knew he was loved by many. During his final months of life, he was aware of the special care he was given by his local friends in the English and Spanish Congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He also felt the care and love f rom the family who lived afar, and so many in the community, including his many doctors, nurses, and friends he made along the way.
He expressed his satisfaction of l iving a good life, enjoying his family and the fine association of his friends. H e faced his final d ays with courage, and a will and determination beyond what i s normal. He believed that he will one day return to us in an earthly paradise with restored health and vigor, according to God’s loving promises at Revelation 21:3,4.

Linda and daughters would like to e xtend a heartfelt thank you and appreciation to our loving congregation that has helped carry us through this difficult time. To our family and friends and many w ho reached out with encouraging words, flowers, gifts, and their love, we are profoundly grateful. We miss him greatly, b ut w e are comforted in knowing he is now resting and no longer suffering. And now we wait f or the day he will be called back to life (John 5:28, 29).
