Stolen vehicle recovered, arrests made

-

Two people were arrested and a stolen vehicle was recovered after a police pursuit Wednesday afternoon, El Centro Police Department call logs stated.

The theft occurred at the Costco parking lot on North Imperial Avenue, county scanner traffic stated.

ECPD received a report about 3 p.m. of a vehicle that had just been stolen from the Costco lot, call logs stated.

At first, the owner of the vehicle flagged down someone from the Fire Department, who then notified ECPD. A few minutes later, the vehicle owner himself contacted ECPD.

According to logs, two people entered the vehicle, a brown 2003 Chevy Silverado, while it was in the store’s parking lot and took off northbound on La Brucherie Road.

The ECPD immediately requested assistance from the Imperial Police Department, Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.

About 3:21 p.m., police located the vehicle as it was heading southbound on Dogwood Road, from Aten Road.

At this time, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield. About 3:23 p.m., the pickup pulled over in the area of Dogwood and Villa Avenue, at which point the passenger left the vehicle.

The driver and the passenger were eventually detained. The owner of the Silverado arrived at the scene, and the vehicle was returned to him. The two suspects were each booked into Imperial County Jail with bail enhancements on suspicion of vehicle theft.
