Polls show contradictory pictures

-

National Regeneration Movement Party gubernatorial candidate Marina Avila’s lead is either shrinking or non-existent, depending on the poll.

The former Mexicali mayor formerly the favorite of close to 50 percent in dozens of polls has seen her popularity shrink in recent weeks.

A recent survey by Demos Tracking says the frontrunner has 36 percent of potential votes, while former Tijuana Mayor Jorge Hank is close with 30 percent.

Lupita Jones, of the three-party coalition, has 21 percent.

Other candidates would receive 1 percent of the votes, and 9 percent are undecided, the poll says.

The survey was conducted April 5-9 among 3,200 likely voters through telephone and digital interviews.

Meanwhile, pollster Mexico Elige says Avila would receive 39.8 percent of votes and Hank 34.7 percent.

Jones holds a 14.4 percent share, while all other candidates total 8 percent, according to poll results.

Another poll, by Campaigns and Elections, shows Avila with 42 percent of votes, Jones with 19 percent and Hank in third with 14 percent. The survey says 20 percent of voters are undecided.

On Wednesday, pollster Roy Campos of Consulta Mitofsky reported that Avila was leading with 45.9 percent of votes, followed by Jones with 21.5 percent and Hank with 15.1 percent. Still undecided were 13.4 percent of those surveyed.

Although most surveys show Avila above the 40 percent threshold, pollsters Arias Consultores and Radiografía Política have Hank leading with 40 percent and 55.8 percent, respectively.
