John Canaris Jr., passed away on Holy T hursday April 1, 2021.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born August 13, 1926 in San Diego. His parents, J ohn Canaris S r. who was originally from Greece and Elena Esparza from Ensenada, Mexico, came to l ive in Calexico California. He w as the youngest of f our siblings, James C anaris, J eanne Hackett and Mary Canaris who died in early childhood.
John married Maria Rosario (Rosie) Chell (Miss Imperial Valley) f rom Holtville on Valentines Day 67 y ears ago. T hey made their home in Calexico.
He is survived by h is spouse, Rose Canaris and five children, Helen Elizabeth Agundez, John Anthony Canaris, Thomas Canaris, Ronald Steven Canaris and James Richard Canaris. He had eleven grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren. He graduated from Calexico High School and was an Army V eteran Honorably Discharged at the end of t he K orean War. J ohn worked for Roy H. Womack Chevrolet in Calexico as a Business Manager for 31 years. His hobbies were trap shooting and hunting all kinds o f foul, but his passion was deep sea fishing. He owned a small fishing b oat and fished the Sea of C ortez for more than 60 years. He had many friends that were f isherman in San Felipe where he kept his boat. He was 91 when his dear friend Steve Filer came by t o give him a ride to S an Felipe where he fished his last tournament. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
