Bob Sones, 78, of Emigrant, M ontana, passed away o f natural causes October 21, 2021 a t his home w ith h is l oving wife, Kristi, b y his side. He w as b orn in S an Diego, CA and raised in Niland, CA. Bob joined the Navy r ight o ut o f high s chool, s tudying electronics and nuclear power before q ualifying for submarine service and serving his country during the Vietnam War. After an h onorable d ischarge, he c ontinued in the energy and alternate energy fields until retirement, successfully m anaging multiple g eothermal power plants in California a nd m entoring plants in South America. Bob was highly respected in the field of geothermal power.
Bob thrived in the outdoors, s pending his free time with f amily and friends, camping, fishing, hunting, dry washing, and exploring. He w as a member o f the DeAnza Search and Rescue Team in E l Centro, CA f or many years and was their training officer for several of those years.
Bob was a great man, a wonderfully l oyal a nd helpful friend, and a great American. T hose w ho knew h im e njoyed h is stories about his life aboard t he s ubmarines and his many o ther a dventures. He was entertaining and loved by a ll who met him.
He is survived by his wife, Kristi; his son, Ryan
(Taylor) S ones; and his grandchildren, Pearl and Parker; as well as many other family and friends
A m emorial service with Veterans Honors and spreading of B ob's ashes will be held at the Yellowstones Edge R V Park o n Saturday, October 30 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at Chico Hot Springs Convention Center at 3 p.m. In Bob's honor, please wear your favorite A loha s hirt to send him on eternal patrol.
