Maria Acosta, 91, of El Centro p assed away o n October 17, 2021.

She was born J uly 6, 1930 in Guadalupe, C hihuahua, MX a nd w as married to David Acosta on November 28, 1944 in Benicia, Durando, MX.

Maria was a d evoted wife, mother, and grandmothe­r. She was a homemaker for 76 y ears. She was the matriarch of not only her immediate family but also her extended family. S he w ill be r emembered for her devotion to her Catholic faith, family, and friends. Maria was a parishione­r for over 50 years of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in El Centro.

Maria and her husband, David Acosta, were married for 67 years until his passing in 2012. After the passing of h er h usband, Maria was self-reliant and lived with her faithful dog, C hiquita, who provided her companions­hip f or 16 years. Maria greatly enjoyed visits from her family, especially her grandchild­ren and great-great grandchild­ren. She always had delicious food, like C hile Verde, on the stove ready to feed whoever stopped by to visit. Maria was not only known for her great cooking but also f or keeping a beautiful g arden; s he knew exactly how to k eep her plants and flowers green all year long, even in the heat of the Valley summer. She was traditiona­l in many ways but had an incredible sense of humor a nd continued to m ake us chuckle even while hospitaliz­ed.

The Acosta f amily would like to give a special thank you to her devoted caretaker and friend, Rosie Davalos, who provided great care to o ur m other and the warmth of her friendship. In a ddition, t he f amily would like to thank the doctors and staff at E l Centro Regional Medical Center, and UCSD Thornton H ospital and the Sulpizio Cardiovasc­ular Center in La Jolla, for their great care o f our mother d uring her last days.

She was preceded in death by h er h usband, David Acosta.

Maria is survived b y her 10 c hildren and extended f amily; h er sons, Miguel ( Alicia) Acosta of Chula Vista, and Manuel Acosta o f El C entro; daughters, C armen (Tony) A guirre o f Pico Rivera, Graciela ( Victor) Marin of B rawley, Olga (Ernesto) Kyle of San Antonio, T exas, Maria (Robert) Fugett, and Norma ( Joe) Benito of Imperial, Patricia (& Michael), Rosalinda (Bryan) Mabrey of Fresno, Esther (Paul) Robbert o f Chandler, AZ; 15 g randchildr­en, 25 g reat-grandchild­ren, and 2 great-great grandchild­ren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, N ovember

Visitation will be held Wednesday, N ovember 17, 2021 from 6 to 9 pm at Gardens of Eden Funeral Home w ith rosary a t 7 pm. Funeral Mass w ill take p lace o n Thursday, November 1 8, 2 021 at 9 am a t Our Lady o f Guadalupe Church in El Centro. Burial will immediatel­y follow at E vergreen Cemetery.
