TRO served against Imperial mayor
IMPERIAL – Proof of service documentation was filed with Superior Court Monday verifying that a temporary restraining order and other legal documents were served on Mayor Karin Eugenio on Wednesday.
The documents were served on behalf of the mayor’s estranged husband, Arthur Eugenio, 47. The couple’s 6- year- old daughter is also covered under the order.
According to Arthur Eugenio’s declaration supporting the request for a TRO, the couple has been separated since Aug. 3, when he said his wife moved out.
That same declaration alleges several incidents of abusive and harassing behavior on Karin Eugenio’s part against her husband. The most recent of those allegedly occurred between Nov. 21 and 23.
The city of Imperial issued a statement regarding the conflict on Nov. 23.
The release said Imperial Police at 6: 39 p. m. Tuesday responded to a call regarding a domestic disturbance in the area of Fourth and D streets.
The statement also noted the Imperial Police Department was in receipt of a copy of a temporary restraining order that obtained regarding the matter, although it did not specify against whom.
The TRO includes personal conduct orders prohibiting the mayor from contacting or harassing her husband or daughter in any way.
It also requires her to keep at least 100 yards’ distance between herself and her husband or her daughter.
A court hearing regarding the order is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 9.
The city said the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office is investigating last week’s domestic disturbance involving the Eugenios.
“While I have full confidence in my department’s ability to conduct such an investigation, we want to ensure a fair and unbiased investigation is conducted given the sensitive nature of the case,” Imperial Police Chief Leonard Barra said in the city’s official statement. “The Imperial Police Department makes every effort to reduce violence throughout our City not only to respond to victims of violence, but the individuals and trauma of those who cause harm.”
