IVC celebrates grand opening of new DSPS building
Imperial Valley College celebrated the grand opening of the new Disability Support Program & Services (DSPS) building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 17. DSPS is one of the many essential programs at IVC and is designed to provide supportive services to students with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, mental health concerns, intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, visual impairments and health problems and to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, Autism, ADD/ADHD, and other health problems. The program provides priority registration, counseling, class scheduling, mobility assistance, interpreting, alternate text production, and test proctoring.
DSPS was previously located within the Health Services Building. As the program continued to grow, the need for its own building became a priority. This dream became a reality with the help of Measure J. During the ceremony, DSPS director
Wendy Prewett also recognized the El Centro
Lions Club for its generous donation for blind and visually impaired IVC students.
The new, 2,880 square-foot DSPS building consists of many state-of-the-art features including a “High Tech Center” computer room, proctor’s ofof- fice with testing room, conference room with an interactive hi-flex monitor and entry receptionist lobby with scooter storage.
This project was brought forth by DSPS management & staff, the Student Services & Equity Department, the Administrative Services Department, under the leadership of the Imperial Community College District Board of Trustees, and supervision of the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee.
