A Day of Discovery awaits prospectiv­e students at SDSU Imperial Valley

Aworld of opportunit­y awaits California State University-eligible students who attend SDSU Imperial Valley. Now college-bound high school seniors, juniors and students ready to transfer to a four-year institutio­n can learn all about what lies ahead when they attend Discover SDSU Imperial Valley, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.

The event gives prospectiv­e students and their families a chance to find out what is available at the Valley’s only public fouryear university.

SDSU Imperial Valley offers a top- quality, affordable education at a nationally ranked research university at an affordable price, all on an idyllic local campus.

“Imagine the future you can create with a degree from SDSU Imperial Valley,” said Henry Villegas, dean of Student Affairs. “Getting your college education here can transform your tomorrow.”

Discover SDSU Imperial Valley offers prospectiv­e students the opportunit­y to explore the campus and meet current students, faculty members and university support staff. Attendees will see the advantages already available and the new opportunit­ies coming to SDSU Imperial Valley in fall 2022.

Discover SDSU Imperial Valley attendees will get a glimpse of transforma­tions planned for the campus library, including a new Aztec Stores facility, a coffee bar and comfortabl­e gathering spaces scheduled to be open in fall 2022. In addition, attendees can explore the new services and programs available for students on campus, including the Career and Veterans Affairs Center, the Cross-Cultural Center, financial aid services, the Basic Needs Coordinato­r and the Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT), the Food Pantry, Student Health Services and more.

University admissions and enrollment staff will be available to offer assistance and informatio­n. They also can provide informatio­n about the growing list of majors and services available. Starting in the fall, SDSU Imperial Valley first-year and transfer students can take many more majors and any minor offered by the university, through a new program called “Archway.”

A recently launched university shuttle service provides transporta­tion to link the Imperial Valley and San Diego campuses.

Meanwhile, the list of programs fully available at SDSU Imperial Valley continues to expand with the addition of a public health minor, environmen­tal health and nursing in fall 2022. And, for the first time, first- year students can be admitted with an Undeclared Major status.

Discover SDSU Imperial Valley also will showcase the small classes, the easy access to faculty and staff, and opportunit­ies to participat­e in academic research that is the hallmark of the campus. And informatio­n will be available about the scholarshi­ps and financial aid that make it possible for most students to get their education at low to no cost.
