Holtville senior named to state FFA leadership team
SACRAMENTO — A Holtville senior has been chosen as part of California FFA’s leadership team for 2022-2023.
Melanie Orozco was elected state reporter during California FFA’s state conference March 26-29. The reporter essentially serves as a media specialist and public relations coordinator for the state organization.
Orozco has served three years as an officer for Holtville FFA, as well as a section officer for Imperial County and recently as a region officer for Southern California.
To get the nod as state reporter, Orozco first had to get through nine rounds of interviews in order to make the final slate of 12 candidates. She was then interviewed on stage, in front of the 6,000 members present at the convention.
This is the third state officer for Holtville FFA in the last seven years. In June, Orozco will move into the FFA center in Galt and begin her year of service traveling the state and nation.
She will receive top level training which she will then apply to facilitating chapter visits, leadership conferences, meets with agriculture industry leaders and planning the 2023 state FFA leadership conference.
Holtville FFA took 30 students to the 94th State FFA Convention. Students competed in numerous contests at the state level including agriscience fair, national chapter award, proficiency awards, parliamentary procedure and creed speaking.
Additionally, Principal Anthony Arevalo was recognized as Southern California FFA Star Administrator and Marci Mange from Freedom Academy was recognized as Southern California FFA’s Star Supporting Staff.
