A strange day on the streets

-

Though El Centro Police may not have had any particularly serious cases on Thursday, what they day lacked in drama was more than made up for with the strange, quirky and weird, based on dispatcher’s logs.

About 1 p.m. there were 911 calls from a woman on East Hamilton Avenue who “claimed there were females on her roof wrapped in plastic who eats people.” The suspicions were determined to be unfounded. The woman advised she was just disoriented and declined medical treatment.

A little later, shortly before 3:30 p.m., a refrigerator was found in the middle of the road at the intersection of Imperial Avenue and Cruickshank Drive. It was removed from the traffic lanes and left on the roadside, logs said.

About 6 p.m. there was a call about a physical altercation between a man and woman at El Centro Regional Medical Center. It turns out both had been at the hospital following an earlier altercation.

After being released they got into a second altercation during which the man, identified as Juan Gonzalez, 39, allegedly punched the woman, 32, in the face. He was detained by hospital security and police who arrived cited and released him for battery.

Finally, about 11:30 p.m. a vandal decided fame could he his. A woman called police to report after hearing a loud bang outside her residence on West Lenrey Avenue she saw on her security camera a subject with a baseball bat break the rear window to Mercedes parked in her carport.

But the reporting party apparently wasn’t the only one with a camera.

“Susp is recording, has a phone in his hand and is recording the incident,” the log noted.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult wearing a ball cap, black hoodie and black shorts. He was last seen walking south but officers who responded were not able to locate him.
