New administrators announced
Johanna Fisher has been named chief human resources offifficPehro, Photo t roe bpyl by aLacuinrag Laura Lucero L Cuclienrot Dougherty, who retired in December after serving in that position since July 2017.
Dr. Cuauhtémoc Carboni, who had been serving as dean of math and sciences, will step up to become the interim vice president of academic services, replacing David Drury, who also retired in December.
And Lorena Lopez has joined IVC as its vice president of student services.
Fisher comes to IVC from the position of human resources manager at Porterville College in the Central Valley. She began her community college career as a full-time student at Los Angeles Valley College before completing her general education at Long Beach City College. She finished her undergraduate work at California State University, Long Beach, where she focused on non-profit management.
Fisher also holds a master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in human resources from California State University, Bakersfield. She began her professional career in the California Community College System in 2018 with the Kern Community College District.
Carboni is a native of Mexicali and started his educational journey in the U.S. as a student-athlete at Victor Valley College. He played football there while he majored in math and science. After attaining his associate degree, Carboni transferred to Cal Poly Humboldt, where he majored in kinesiology and played football as well.
He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in kinesiology from Cal Poly Humboldt, then moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where he obtained his doctorate in physical education, sport and exercise science from the University of New Mexico.
Carboni also was named the Outstanding Doctoral Student for the program and was keynote speaker for convocation in the College of Education.
For the past 18 years, he has worked as a professor, coach, and administrator at several other colleges, including Cuyamaca College, University of New Mexico, California State University, San Bernardino, Weber State University and Cal Poly Humboldt.
He lives in Brawley with his wife, Anna Elizabeth, and their three children, Miroslava (14), Cuauhtemoc (13) and Olenna (5).
Lopez began her new position Jan 2.
She stepped into the position vacated by Dr. Lennor Johnson when he was appointed Superintendent/President last year.
Lopez previously had been an administrator in the Los Angeles Community College District for a number of years.
Ms. Lopez served as registrar for Los Angeles Pierce College for almost seven years. More recently, Ms. Lopez served as the dean of student success and support services and the dean of student services in Los Angeles Valley, and
Los Angeles Mission Colleges, respectively.
She also has an extensive background in the California Community College System and in the private sector of higher education. Her career pathway has included positions as director of human resources, college registrar, academic counselor, and director of student services in the private sector.
Lopez earned a master’s degree in postsecondary education and organizational leadership from Argosy University, Los Angeles. She earned a senior bachelor’s degree in business administration in management from Rafael Landivar University, Guatemala and teacher credential from the National Institute of the West, Guatemala.
