Edmundo Paul Marquez, affectiona­tely k nown as Ed, passed away on January 2 6, 2 023. B orn on May 2, 1957, to Edmundo Regino Marquez and Vivian Paula Lorensen Marquez, in Mexicali, B.C., he was raised in the Imperial Valley and lived a life filled with love, faith, and compassion.

Despite being born with dual citizenshi­p, Ed was naturalize­d in 1 965. H e was very proud to be an American. H e attended Meadows Union, Holtville Middle School, and Holtville H igh School, where he graduated in 1975.

After graduation, Ed attended A nnapolis Naval Academy as a m idshipman before r eturning to the Imperial V alley, where he would meet the love of his life, April Gatlin-Bell. They married on June 17, 1978.

Ed was an active member of C entral Baptist Church and had a strong faith in the Lord. He was known for his caring nature and infectious smile, always p utting o thers first and making f riends wherever he went. He instilled a love of the Lord and respect for others in his children a nd g randchildr­en. E d will b e remembered b y many f or his kindness, his endless support o f his children and their friends in e verything they did, and his endless dad jokes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfathe­r, and friend.

Ed is survived by his wife, April; children, Edmundo Clay a nd B eth, Amber Cardenas, Adam and Elaine, and Sarah and Felip Combs; g randchildr­en, Aliah, A lyssa, Brooke, Liam, Penelope, Ryder, E dmundo Matthew, and Thelonious; s iblings, Greg and Becky Marquez and Ingrid a nd D onny F lores; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ed w ill be d eeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on through the love and compassion h e shared with others.

Viewing will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, February 1 7, 2 023, a t Hems M ortuary in E l Centro. A celebratio­n of Ed's l ife will be held a t Central Baptist Church on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 11 a.m., where friends and family c an come t ogether to h onor his memory. B urial will be private.
