Patricia ( Pattie) A. Young, 7 6, p assed away unexpected­ly o n February 4, 2023, while visiting her sister in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Pattie was the daughter of Mearl C. Clapp of Hickory, Oklahoma, and Alberta A. Whaley of Hannibal, Missouri.

She a ttended S t. Joseph's Catholic School in Holtville, CA, Wilson Jr. High School, and Central Union High School in El Centro, CA. She went on to obtain h er AA at IVC, t hen continued to San Diego State University for her BA in English. She later received h er MBA from S an D iego State University. She taught 7th a nd 8th g raders at Wilson Jr. High School for 37 years.

Pattie i s remembered for the many plays she directed a nd h er l argerthan-life personalit­y. After her years of service to the El Centro School District, P attie retired, but continued to m entor young minds for many years as a volunteer and serve as an ECEF Foundation Board member.

She is survived by her sister, Anita ( Clapp) Russell of Myrtle Creek, OR; nephew, Steven S witzer Jr.; g reat-nephews, Steven, Shane, a nd Sawyer all of Milford, PA; and great-niece, C arissa Switzer of Springfiel­d, IL; an a unt, Norma Carlton of San Marcos, CA; and cousins, V on C lapp o f San Marcos, CA, Kelley of C handler T X, a nd Connie Mayberry of Bakersfiel­d, CA.

A celebratio­n of life for Pattie will be held at the First Baptist Church l ocated at 720 Orange Ave. in E l Centro, CA, on February 27, 2023, beginning a t 10:30 a.m. R ev. Walter Colace of Christ Community C hurch will officiate. You are invited to share your memories. Her burial will take place at E vergreen C emetery following the service.
