City of Imperial appoints new Police Chief
IMPERIAL – The City of Imperial proudly announces the appointment of Aaron Reel as the new Police Chief, effective March 18, 2024.
According to a press release from the Imperial Police Department, Police Chief Aaron Reel (“Chief Reel”) brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to public safety to his new role. Chief Reel has been a resident of the Imperial Valley since 1985. A graduate of Central Union High School in 1995, Chief Reel has deep roots in the Imperial Valley and is dedicated to serving its residents. He is a proud husband and father of two (2) daughters.
“I am honored to be appointed as the Police Chief of the City of Imperial,” Chief Reel said in the release. “I look forward to working collaboratively with our community and law enforcement partners to ensure a safe and thriving environment for all.”
According to the release, Chief Reel’s law enforcement career spans over 25 years, starting in 1996 when he graduated from San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy and joined the El Centro Police Department. Throughout his career, he has held various roles including; Patrol Officer, Narcotic Investigator, Field Training Officer, and SWAT team member. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2009, followed by roles as Police Commander in 2013.
In addition to his extensive field experience, Chief Reel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from National University. Chief Reel continued expanding his knowledge and experience and has completed executive programs at the University of Notre Dame and the FBI National Academy.
As Police Chief, Chief Reel will oversee all aspects of law enforcement operations in the City of Imperial, focusing on community engagement, crime prevention, and ensuring the highest standards of professionalism within the department.
“I am confident that Chief Reel’s leadership and dedication will greatly benefit our community and the City of Imperial Police Department,” City Manager Dennis Morita said in the release. “We are excited to welcome him as our new Police Chief.”
