Gavin Rossdale blames Gwen Stefani for their divorce and mocks her life with Blake Shelton
For 17 months, Gavin Rossdale kept his mouth shut. But in late January, he finally opened up about his shocking August 2015 split from Gwen Stefani in the wake of his nanny cheating scandal, and it wasn’t pretty. In an indepth interview with the U.K.’S Fabulous magazine, the English rocker, 51, refused to address his alleged affair and instead lamented that his ex’s decision to file for divorce “was completely opposite to what I wanted” and “one of the hardest, most painful things to go through.”
Those were fighting words for Gwen. “She’s fuming that Gavin has been talking about the divorce but not admitting that the split was entirely because he had an affair with the nanny,” an insider tells In Touch. “Gwen is just stunned that he refuses to accept any responsibility for his actions.” And privately, his comments about her and her new love, Blake Shelton, 40, are even more hurtful. “Gavin has mocked Gwen and Blake to his kids,” says the insider. “He told their sons [Kingston, 10, Zuma, 8, and Apollo, 2] that he hopes they don’t turn into ‘complete hillbillies’ by hanging out with Blake.”
Gavin bashed Gwen again in another interview days later. When asked if he’s listened to Gwen’s song “Used to Love You” — which is about their breakup — he responded, “Erm…. You know, I did hear it the other day in an airport. They had one of those little kiosks playing it, and I heard the song about how she used to love me. So I stood in the store and listened to it from beginning to end going: ‘Okaaaay.’” Then he added coldly, “If she had to do
that, if she needed to do it, that’s her perspective and everyone has that.”
It gets worse. “Even behind closed doors, he’s refused to apologize for cheating,” says the insider. “Gavin actually blamed Gwen for what he did. He felt she wasn’t paying enough attention to him!” But the disrespectful behavior is nothing new for Gavin. “He’s called Gwen a hillbilly for years because she’s from Orange County [Calif.]. He thinks the O.C. is tacky and constantly reminded her during the marriage that she was low-class,” adds the insider. “Since Gwen started dating Blake, a country music star, the comments have only increased.”
Gwen, 47, just wants Gavin to zip it — in public and in private — when it comes to her and Blake. “She has never gone negative on Gavin in the media,” says the insider. “She easily could have bashed him after what he did to her. But if he doesn’t watch what he says and conduct himself better, she will — and it won’t be pretty.” ◼
