JIM CARREY TO TESTIFY ABOUT EX’S DEATH
Jim Carrey has stayed tightlipped since ex-girlfriend Cathriona White intentionally overdosed on his prescription medications in September 2015. That was just days after Jim ended their three-year romance. But the comedian, who is being sued for wrongful death by Cathriona’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, and her mother, Brigid Sweetman, will now be forced to tell all under oath.
In August, Jim, 55, will sit for a deposition and answer questions about the Irish makeup artist’s shocking death and their relationship. “No question will be off-limits. I expect to ask Mr. Carrey about the STDS he gave to my client and prescription drugs he also gave her,” Michael Avenatti, the attorney representing Cathriona’s mom and estranged husband, tells In Touch. (Brigid and Mark allege that Jim obtained drugs under a false name and gave them to Cathriona, despite knowing she had previously attempted suicide. They also claim Jim gave her gonorrhea and two forms of herpes.) “I’m [also] going to ask [Jim] for specifics about the months and days leading up to Cat’s death,” adds Avenatti, noting that the deposition “will be videotaped” and the case will go to trial next April.
But Jim’s attorney, Raymond Boucher, tells In Touch that the actor isn’t worried. “My client looks forward to answering all and any appropriate questions at the deposition,” says Boucher, adding that he is currently seeking Cathriona’s medical records to prove that Jim didn’t give her any STDS. “This lawsuit is completely frivolous.”
