Cops and an ambulance called! Kate and Jon Gosselin’s custody war takes a dark turn
Hannah Gosselin couldn’t stop screaming. At an Aug. 15 custody exchange in a parking lot off of a Pennsylvania highway, the sobbing 13-year-old was so unwilling to leave her father, Jon Gosselin, to go with her mother, Kate, that she refused to get out of the car. The Kate Plus 8 star responded by attempting to physically remove her hysterical daughter in front of Jon and three police officers — and it was caught on video. The ordeal ended with Hannah saying she was injured and taken to a hospital by ambulance. In Touch has exclusively obtained a word-forword account of the shocking scene:
Hannah (to Kate): No! Stop, please, stop! Let go of me, Mommy! Kate: We don’t want Daddy to get arrested! Jon (watching Kate trying to remove Hannah from the car): I won’t get arrested! If you don’t want to go, put up a fight.… You’re pushing her, Kate. You can tell your lawyer to back it off. Hannah (screaming): Mom, please stop! Jon: You’re going to hurt her. Kate: I’m not going to hurt her. Jon: You’re going to hurt her. Officer, come on! Hannah (screaming): Mom, don’t! Kate: I know it’s not the best, honey…. Jon: No. Hannah (screaming): Mom, stop! Kate: You have brothers and sisters who need to see you! You will be fine. Hannah (screaming): Mom, please don’t! No! Jon (to Hannah): Fight it…. Kate: We will get you to therapy and you will visit both of us just like you want. Jon: If you don’t want to go…. Hannah (screaming): No! Kate: But it is my week. Jon (to Hannah): Keep on fighting it! Hannah (screaming at Kate): No! Stop! Stop! Jon: Fight it! Kate: I’m going to pull you out of the car.
Jon (to police): She’s pulling her out of the car! Kate: I have to. Hannah (screaming): No! Stop, stop, stop, stop! Jon (to Kate): You’re going to hurt her! (And then to Hannah) Hold on. Hold on. If you don’t want to go, don’t go. I can’t help you. Hold on. Hold on. Hannah: No! No! No! Kate (crying): Honey, but I love you! Come on! Hannah! Jon (to Hannah): You’ve just got to hold on (to the car). Hold on. That one excruciating scene was from a showdown that lasted three hours. But the drama had been brewing for days: On Aug. 11, “Jon and Kate had an emergency hearing with a judge after Hannah refused to go back to Kate’s house,” a source tells In Touch. “The judge granted Jon equal custody of Hannah until he and Kate go to trial.” Now the long, contentious custody war between Jon, 40, and Kate, 42, following their 2009 divorce has exploded, and custody of all their sextuplets — including Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Joel and Leah — is at stake. (In August 2016, twins Mady and Cara, 16, said they do not want to spend time with their father.) “The trial will determine if Jon gets 50/50 custody of the sextuplets,” says the source. “He desperately wants to see his kids more.”
And Hannah doesn’t want to be with Kate. “Poor Hannah cries sometimes when she leaves her dad, but never to this extent. Kate called the police, who called Jon to set up an exchange spot,” says the source. And when Hannah still refused, the cops called the judge. “He told the officers to tell Hannah that if she didn’t go home with her mother, he was going to stick her in foster care. Hannah said, ‘OK, I will go to foster care,’” an insider tells In Touch. Kate, who was told by police that she could “remove Hannah from the car,” adds the insider, “proceeded to unlock Hannah’s seat belt and grab her in an attempt to pull her out.” As she tried to pry Hannah from the car, her screaming daughter resisted.
The vicious tug-of-war didn’t end until police called an ambulance for Hannah, who said her arm was injured. Then, at the hospital, “Kate told the police she thought Jon was a danger and Hannah needed to be protected. So the police removed Jon while Hannah was being treated,” says the insider.
Still, Jon refuses to be bullied. Adds the insider: “He wants to make sure Hannah knows he won’t abandon her.” ◼
