KATIE CALLS TOM TO VISIT SURI
Katie Holmes goes to great lengths to get her ex Tom Cruise to see his daughter — but he won’t
Like any other working single mom, Katie Holmes has questioned her parenting skills. “Am I enough?” she has confessed to thinking. “Am I doing enough?” The answer, according to friends, is a resounding yes. One insider says the actress is “completely devoted” to Suri, the 11-year-old daughter she refers to as “my sweetie” on Instagram. “Katie plans her life around her. Every decision she makes, she puts Suri first,” says the insider. “Katie would do anything for her.”
Even reach out to Suri’s dad, her ex-husband, Tom Cruise. It’s been four years since Tom has seen Suri, as In Touch recently reported exclusively, and Katie is not OK with that, an insider says. Since Tom and Suri’s last public outing — a mini-golf playdate in Lake Placid, N.Y., that took place 1,465 days ago — Katie has tried to get Tom to see his daughter in person. “She has reached out…in the hopes of opening a dialogue about resuming contact with Suri,” continues the source. Though Katie, who blindsided the Hollywood icon by filing for divorce in 2012 after nearly six years of marriage, has happily moved on with Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx, says the source, “she truly wants Tom to be a part of Suri’s life.”
Her mission is proving to be impossible. The Logan Lucky actress, 38, has tried to reach her ex through multiple avenues, including his publicist, his assistant and even his sisters, says the insider. But, “it has been radio silence from Tom and his family,” adds the source, adding that Katie doesn’t even have Tom’s current phone number. “She’s been shut out.”
And she doesn’t know why. “It’s frustrating,” continues the source. Tom, 55, admitted in a 2013 court deposition that one of the reasons Katie left him was because she wanted to keep Suri away from Scientology, his controversial religion, and some have speculated that he may have ceased contact because Katie is a “suppressive person” — church-speak for those who stand in the way of spiritual growth. Katie, however, “doesn’t want her divorce from Tom and the issues they had to impact Suri. That isn’t fair,” says the source. “Katie would like to at least have a conversation with Tom.”
Tom refuses to say why he doesn’t see his daughter. He has repeatedly refused to answer In Touch’s detailed questions about why he no longer visits Suri. He also avoids the topic during media interviews promoting his projects. And he seems more deeply immersed in Scientology than ever after selling his Beverly Hills mansion for a reported $40 million in 2016. His new home: Clearwater, Fla., where Scientology has its headquarters (see sidebar).
Still, distance is no match for Katie’s resolve. “Tom is Suri’s father,” says the source, “and she wants them to have a relationship.” ◼
