Taylor Swift, 27, apparently determined to keep up her mean nice-girl reputation, sent competitor Cardi B, 24, a bouquet of flowers to congratulate the rapper after her hit “Bodak Yellow” bumped “Look What You Made Me Do” from the top spot on the Billboard chart. But haters questioned Taylor’s motives: One online critic called the gesture “the ultimate power move,” while Newsweek asked, “Is this one of those things where you send your enemies super-expensive gifts to let them know just how morally superior you are to them?” For her part, Cardi B took the gift at face value, expressing delight — and effusive praise for Tay-tay, of course — on Instagram. Flowers do seem to be Taylor’s go-to gift: She’s sent them to Dancing With the Stars competitor Victoria Arlen, 2016 America’s Got Talent winner Grace Vanderwaal and even Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy” singers Richard and Fred Fairbrass (whose hit song she sampled). Even so, if someone carrying flowers comes knocking at Katy Perry’s house, maybe she should pretend she isn’t home.
