WHY THEY REALLY SPLIT
Despite their claims of an amicable parting, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan are locked in a bitter divorce battle INTOUCHWEEKLY. COM
They swore they are still friends. On April 2, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan announced that their 12-year “magical journey,” which began when they co-starred in 2006’s Step Up and eventually led to a wedding and a beautiful daughter, was over. “Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love each other,” they explained, insisting that “no secrets nor salacious events [are] at the root of our decision — just two best friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.” After reports emerged alleging that Channing’s excessive drinking and cheating were behind the shocking split, they doubled down on the everything-is-amicable narrative, with both stars’ reps going on the offensive to deny the claims. “The reason our statement was so positive,” Jenna’s rep insisted, is “because that’s the reality of the situation.” Added Channing’s rep: “None of these accusations are remotely true. Channing and Jenna released an honest and loving statement, which is the only truth.”
But In Touch has learned the real story is far more
complicated. “Their public statements are a smoke screen,” an insider tells In Touch, explaining that behind the scenes, “the divorce is getting uglier by the moment.” Multiple sources tell In Touch that despite the actors’ claims that their parting is just two BFFS going in different directions, their breakup after nearly nine years of marriage is actually rife with hurt, anger, jealousy and regret. There’s also a brewing war over money. Channing and Jenna, both 37, “haven’t lived together for a while, have very little in common and don’t really like each other anymore,” says the insider. “This divorce is going to be as nasty as they come.”
READY FOR A FIGHT For starters, Channing’s behavior will be under a microscope. There has long been speculation that his ladies’ man reputation caused problems in his marriage. Reports detailed his alleged flirting while shooting Foxcatcher and at a bar near its Pittsburgh set in 2012 and at London nightclub The Box in 2013, when he went out without his wedding ring (above). “The photo of him without his ring broke her heart,” the source says of Jenna. Adding fuel to the fire: reports suggesting he wasn’t behaving while shooting Magic Mike XXL with gorgeous Amber Heard in 2014. “Jenna was always worried because Channing got hit on all the time. He always played it cool, like he wasn’t interested in other women, and she trusted him. But she’s heard all the stories,” says a source. And, adds the source, “If she finds out Channing cheated on her, she will make his life miserable. She’ll get him where it hurts — his bank account.”
Jenna could also argue that after years of playing a supporting role
