I Never Put My Husband First!

The mom of two gets real about whether women can really have it all

Finding balance in life is a constant struggle for working moms — celebrities like Jordana Brewster included. “It’s really hard,” the mother to sons Julian, 4, and Rowan, almost 2, tells In Touch. “I think the biggest disservice women can do is pretend that it’s super easy and possible to have it all at all times — because it’s not.” And when it comes to prioritizing, the Lethal Weapon star is brutally honest. “I am not one of those women who’s like, ‘ My husband comes first,’” she admits with a laugh about her 11-year marriage to producer Andrew Form. “No, my sons come first, 1,000 percent!” The 38-yearold — who recently partnered with Zyrtec, her go-to for year-round allergy relief — opened up to In Touch’s Jaclyn Roth about the secrets of her happy marriage, how her kids keep her in check and her return to the Fast & Furious franchise for the first time since her on-screen love Paul Walker’s tragic 2013 death.

How do you think you do when it comes to finding time for your work and your personal life? JB: Sometimes I do a really good job and then sometimes I fail miserably, like most moms. If you’re absent for a

couple of days, you really have to make up for it in the days that you are present. That’s what I can do — and also try to let go of the mom guilt.

How’s that going? JB: It’s brutal! I think as women, we are just wired that way. My husband doesn’t think twice about going on a work trip or being on set for hours and hours. But for me, it just weighs on my conscience. So it just takes work [to let that go].

What have you learned from your kids? JB: Julian has said, “Mom, you’re being in a hurry today” and I realized, “OK, I have to chill out.”

You’ve admitted you don’t put your husband first, so what’s the secret to making it work for so long? JB: Communication. I think when you’re not feeling something, you have to talk about it, duke it out, rather than have it grow. And it helps that we still genuinely enjoy each other’s company!

You recently joined Vin Diesel on set to announce that Mia’s back for Fast & Furious 9! How does it feel? JB: I love [the cast and crew]. I love the franchise, I love our fan base. They are so loyal. Just the fact that we have been going so strong for so long is such a gift, so I just cherish it.

Which co-star are you closest with? JB: Vin now, for sure.

Michelle Rodriguez has talked about how the women in the franchise should have more to do. Your thoughts on that? JB: It would be great if Letty and Mia went off and had their own storyline within the movie — I think it would be a cool direction to go! ◼
