Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again FRI. 7/20, PG-13 ★★★✩✩

After the death of her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep), Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) turns to her three dads (Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth) in this shameless sequel to the Abba-inspired musical. (It’s also a prequel: Lily James plays Donna in frequent flashbacks.) The result is a corny crowd-pleaser — with the iconic Cher as Sophie’s glam grandma!

Unfriended: Dark Web FRI. 7/20, R ★★★✩✩

When Matias (Colin Woodell) finds creepy hidden files on a laptop he took from a lost and found, he puts himself and his friends in danger IRL! This horror thriller cleverly hacks into the dark dangers of the internet, but with most of the action taking place on a computer screen, it’s probably best viewed on a laptop.

The Equalizer 2 FRI. 7/20, R ★★★✩✩

Denzel Washington returns as Robert Mccall, an EX-CIA operative who’s working as a Lyft driver (and freelance badass) when a case involving former spy colleagues (Melissa Leo, Pedro Pascal) beckons him back. This scattered sequel has pacing problems but benefits from Denzel’s melancholic turn as the widowed vigilante doing what he does best.

Blindspotting FRI. 7/20, R ★★★★✩

With three days to go on his probation, Collin (Daveed Diggs, who also co-wrote) is trying to stay out of trouble when he witnesses a cop (Ethan Embry) shooting an unarmed black Friday meets Do the Right Thing: It’s both bickering buddy comedy (co-writer Rafael Casal plays Collin’s volatile white best friend) and a tragically trenchant look at race relations in a gentrifying Oakland.
