Slimdown Tips & Tricks of the Stars

Celebs reveal the quick and easy ways they stay in tip-top shape

1 EAT A HEARTY BREAKFAST

“I have to have eggs every day,” says model, mom and cookbook author CHRISSY TEIGEN, who starts mornings off right with a mix of protein, carbs and fat. “I like two over-easy eggs, turkey bacon, sliced avocado and grilled tomatoes.”

2 LOAD A GREAT PLAYLIST

GWYNETH PALTROW goes harder when she’s got the right tunes on. “Music is such a big part of my workouts,” she says. “You’ve really got to feel the music and get into it.”

3 CHOOSE DRINKS WISELY

When it comes to alcoholic beverages, vodka soda is your best option, according to JANET JACKSON’S longtime trainer, Tony Martinez. “Wine has more sugar and calories, and beer has more carbs and will bloat you.”

4 MIX UP YOUR DIET

“When I get bored with food, I tend to binge-eat,” says JULIANNE HOUGH. So she keeps things interesting in the kitchen: “Last night, I made baked salmon with rosemary and lemon, and broccoli, onions and cherry tomatoes,” she says. Easy and healthy! “It took only 20 minutes and was delicious.”

5 BE A MULTITASKER!

Why waste valuable time? You can catch up on The Real Housewives of Orange County and burn calories at the same time — just follow Dancing With the Stars pro WITNEY CARSON’S lead: “When I’m watching TV, I’ll do sit-ups or leg lifts,” she says.

6 TAKE A WALK

JESSICA SIMPSON stays in shape the old-fashioned way. “I try to walk about 4 miles a day consistently,” she says.

7 LOOK GOOD TO FEEL GOOD

KHLOÉ KARDASHIAN says she works out twice as hard when her gym style is on point. “When I buy a cute outfit, I’m excited to go to the gym,” says the new mom, who lost 30 pounds in three months. “I also wear mascara and cherry lip balm. When I look good at the gym, I’m inspired to do an extra squat or lunge.”

8 KEEP HEALTHY SNACKS HANDY

One way to avoid overeating is to fill up on healthy snacks. Model OLIVIA CULPO swears by almonds. “There’s no mess, and they’re so easy to pack in a little Ziploc bag to take with you,” says Olivia. “They’re my No. 1 go-to!”

9 EAT BEFORE A BIG EVENT

Summer barbecues are full of temptation, but you’ll make smarter choices if you’re not starving when you get there. “Never go to a party hungry,” says KENDRA WILKINSON. “I always eat a small meal beforehand.”

10 FIND A WORKOUT BUDDY

Whether it’s a boyfriend or a pal, having someone to work up a sweat with can be motivating — and helps with accountability. Just ask JENNIFER LOPEZ, who captioned this postworkout snap with her guy Alex Rodriguez: “I push you, you push me.”

11 GET INSPIRED ON SOCIAL MEDIA

ASHLEY GRAHAM turns to Instagram for inspiration. “I follow accounts that inspire me to lift weights,” says the model. “I look at their page and then I go to the gym to do the workouts.”

12 FILL UP WITH SALAD

NICOLE “SNOOKI” POLIZZI credits her weight loss to eating fewer carbs and more veggies, and pairing salads with every meal. “Salad is always on the menu with whatever dish I am making,” she says.

13 KEEP A FOOD JOURNAL

Whether you choose an app like CARRIE UNDERWOOD’S fave Myfitnesspal or use a simple notebook, keeping track of your food leads to more mindful eating. “I’ve kept a food journal forever, since I’m a bottomless pit, and I can out-eat everyone I know!” says the vegetarian country star.

14 MIX UP YOUR WORKOUTS

Walking on a treadmill can get boring, so stars like HILARY DUFF spice things up with variety: “I work out with weighted balls, battle ropes and big rubber-bands,” she says.

15 GO AHEAD — HAVE A CHEAT MEAL!

Model GIGI HADID mostly eats clean, but says she absolutely needs cheat days “to stay sane.” Her indulgence of choice? “Burgers and fries,” she says, “are my weakness!”
