Charlie’s Angels FRI. 11/15, PG-13 (PREVIEW)
The fierce franchise gets a rad reboot from director Elizabeth Banks, with Kristen Stewart and Ella Balinska as agents trying to protect a scientist (Aladdin’s Naomi Scott) who’s trying to stop a crime ring from turning a new power source into a dangerous weapon. (Banks also plays one of an international ring of “Bosleys,” including Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou.) With a stellar soundtrack helmed by Ariana Grande, wild stunts, badass bonding and Noah Centineo as a “handsome nerd,” we’re all in on this Angelic action-adventure!
Waves FRI. 11/15, R ★★★✩✩
Sterling K. Brown is riveting as a disciplinarian dad whose family is impacted by tragedy in this tough-love tearjerker. Despite whiplash from the drama’s changing POVs, it’s held together by gut-wrenching performances from Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Taylor Russell.
