The news hit like a ton of bricks. After four years together — and almost two years to the day after he proposed on bended knee on a beach in the Bahamas — widespread media reports on March 12 declared that Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez had split. The next day, the singer-actress and the retired baseball star pushed back, claiming in a joint statement that there was no breakup, and “we are working through some things.”
But it’s all a ruse, multiple sources tell In Touch. “It’s over,” says one source. “And here’s the real shocker: Alex dumped Jennifer! And he did it by text,” since Jennifer, 51, has been in the Dominican Republic shooting her new movie, Shotgun Wedding, while Alex, 45, has been home in Miami. According to the source, the final straw for the power couple was Alex’s recent cheating scandal involving Southern Charm TV star Madison LeCroy. “It’s no secret that Jennifer has trust issues — she always has — but the reality is that Alex couldn’t take her questioning and doubting him anymore. He
reached the breaking point.”
Jennifer is reeling in the wake of yet another high-profile breakup. “She’s embarrassed and humiliated,” says the source. “She’s also angry. She’s even refusing to return his $5 million engagement ring.” A diva move? Sure, “but who can blame her?” adds the source. “She knew they were having problems, but then he just ended it.”
REALITY SINKS IN
The beginning of the end came on part one of Southern Charm’s Season 7 reunion on Jan. 28 when Bravo personality Craig Conover accused co-star Madison, 30, of having an affair with a taken man, alleging that the beautiful blond salon owner and single mom “flew to Miami to f--- an exMLB player.” Though the name was bleeped out, it soon emerged that the mystery man in question was the retired Yankees slugger. “He contacted me, and yes, we DM’ed. But other than that,” Madison insisted, “there was nothing.” (A rep for Madison had no comment when asked if the reality star doomed Jennifer and Alex’s relationship.)
