Less than two months after announcing his retirement, Tom Brady is back, — breaking his promise to his wife

He lasted just 41 days. “I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now,” Tom Brady wrote on Twitter on March 13, confirming that he’ll be coming back to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for his 23rd NFL season, less than two months after announcing his retirement on Feb. 1. “I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible.”

As usual, his wife, Gisele Bündchen, was publicly enthusiastic. “Here we go again! Let’s go lovvvey!” she commented on his post. But behind the scenes, sources say, Gisele is furious. “They had a massive fight about it. After making such a huge deal about how he needed to finally devote time to his family, Tom has gone back on his word,” says one source. “This is a complete betrayal.”

A DIFFICULT CHOICE

Tom has admitted his marriage has suffered because of his athletic career. “She didn’t feel like I was doing my part for the family. She’s like, ‘I have goals and dreams, too,’ ” Tom said in 2020. “She wasn’t satisfied.” Indeed, while the quarterback was busy winning a record seven Super Bowls (including becoming the game’s oldest MVP in his 2020 victory with the Bucs) and earning the title Greatest of All Time, Gisele, 41, gave up her supermodeling career to hold down the fort at home. “Her selflessness allowed me to reach new heights professionally,” he noted.

Because of that, Tom felt he owed it to her to give up football. “But deep down, he never really wanted to quit. After the disappointment of last season’s playoff loss, he wants to win another Super Bowl so he can go out on top,” says the source, noting that Tom will be 45 when the new season starts in September.

For years, Gisele has wanted him to retire, so this is her worst nightmare. “He’s publicly choosing his career over his family. Again,” says the source. “People online are joking about how he barely even gave family time a chance!” (See right!)

And now the pair, who just celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on Feb. 26, “are hanging by a thread,” claims the source. “This could be the beginning of the end for them.” ◼
